Mythology - The Class
“We can keep from a child all knowledge of earlier myths, but we cannot take from him the need for mythology”
-Introduction-
Welcome to the main page of one of the newest courses at Hogwarts, Mythology. I am Professor Valerie Benoit, your teacher for this course.
The course is offered to third years and above, and is split into an OWL section and a NEWT section. You are to refer to this main post for the monthly course assignments. Assigments can be many things, from a student centered roleplay with the best post awarded the most points, to assignments that can be multiple choice fill in the blank or true and false, to essays focusing on specific topics assigned to you. The NEWT students should be prepared to be a little more in depth than OWL students.
-The Course-
Mythology will cover the globes' stories from the myth. Each class will be able to study Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Nordic, Asian and American mythology. OWL students will be covering the basics of each mythology, while NEWT students will be going much more into depth on specific topics in the mythology.
At the end of each unit, the Mythology students will get to go on a day trip to the places where these stories were created. It is a unique and excellent opportunity for students who may not have means to travel, and it is offered exclusively for my students.
-The Expectations-
I expect my students to come, participate and do the assignment for each and every class, as they are just once a month. If you miss the deadline, your house will be docked five house points. If you miss the deadline twice it goes to ten and third time is detention, so keep that in mind. If you the students make this class as fun as it can be, then we will have an amazing year.
-The Materials-
"Mythology Through the Ages" by Eliezer Cromwell is the required text for this class. Later in the term, permission slips for the scheduled trips will go out for your parents.
Check back every month for class postings in THIS post!
