Arithmancy - The Class
“It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be.”
-Introduction-
Welcome to the main page of Arithmancy. I am Professor Galen Drache, your teacher for this course. The course is offered to third years and above, and is split into an OWL section and a NEWT section. You are to refer to this main post for the monthly course assignments. Assigments can be many things, from a student-centered roleplay with the best post awarded the most points; to assignments that can be multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank, or true-or-false; to essays focusing on specific topics assigned to you. The NEWT students should be prepared to be a little more in-depth than OWL students.
-The Course-
Welcome to Arithmancy, where you will learn to use numbers to predict the future. The word Arithmancy comes from the Greek word “arithmo,” meaning number and “mancy,” meaning prophecy. It is an obscure practice asserting that number patterns exist in real life and can be calculated to give information regarding the future. Some argue that it is a more sensible version of Divination, in that it does the same thing through more appropriate or exacting means.
-The Expectations-
I expect my students to come, participate and do the assignment for each and every class, as they are just once a month. If you miss the deadline, your house will be docked five house points. If you miss the deadline twice it goes to ten and third time is detention, so keep that in mind. The success of this class will depend on you, the students.
-The Materials-
The required texts for this class are: Numerology and Grammatica (OWL) and New Theory of Numerology (NEWT).
