It had been some weeks since Tahlia's life had changed for good. Her grandmother had come barging into her and her mothers' small apartment in Boston with a letter from Hogwarts in hand. It was then she learned that her mother had gotten a friend of theirs to wipe her memory of all magic after her father's death so that she could have a normal life in America. While Tahlia's mother feared how angry she would be with her, she actually felt more relieved than anything. Her entire life she had felt different from all of the other kids in her grade and now she knew why; she had magic in her that was fighting to be remembered. So she had been swept off to England with her grandmother and aunt who took her to Diagon Alley and transformed her into a fledgling young witch.
Now as she sat in the Astronomy tower, her knees tucked up under her as she sat on the ledge she reflected on how lucky she was that she had family willing to do anything for her. From her mother protecting her as a child to her grandmother giving her a crash course in magic, she really was quite blessed. She grabbed a piece of parchment next to her and began writing a letter to her mother. She had felt a little bad leaving her mother all alone in Boston, and hadn't gotten a chance to tell her about Hogwarts yet. She unscrewed the cap of her pot of green ink, her mothers' favorite color and began to write. The scratch of the quill was oddly soothing to her, and she smiled to herself as she detailed her classes, her dormitory and the May Day celebration the school had just thrown.
A creak at the door of the bottom of the stairwell made Tahlia jump and blot one of her sentences. Sighing loudly, she set her things aside and stood up, trying to see down the stairs as to who was joining her. "Hello? Is someone there?" she called softly.
