Chase Nathaniel Kessler
Name: Chase Nathaniel Kessler
Nickname: None
Age: 38
Birthday: November 29
Birthplace: Doncaster, United Kingdom
Current Home: Hogwarts & Hogsmeade Village
Alma Mater: Hogwarts - Gryffindor
Position at Hogwarts: Defense Against the Dark Arts professor & Head of Gryffindor House
Wand: Hawthorn and dragon heartstring, 12 inches, sturdy
Pet: An eagle owl named Tyche
Blood: Pureblood
Looks: Very tall, about 6 feet tall, athletic build, brown eyes, short cropped dark hair, usually unshaven with a bit of morning stubble, several tattoos from his youth
Personality: Outside of class, Chase is very easygoing and laidback. He likes to enjoy a bit of friendly competition here and there and to have a couple drinks down at the pub with his friends. Inside of class and around his students, he can be a bit intimidating and intense. He doesn't take his subject lightly, especially since he knows exactly what dangers lie outside the safety of school from his days of being an Auror. He doesn't tend to sugarcoat things - he will tell you everything straight up and in truth, whether you want to hear it or not. That doesn't mean he isn't helpful, because he would be more than glad to lend his personal time to helping a student in need, as long as they were willing to apply themselves. Chase has no problems calling people out on slacking or cheating. He rarely gives out detention, instead he'll just kick you out and ask you not to come back. He has a no-nonsense attitude and a very strict classroom policy, but he really does care about his student's success.
Likes: Teaching, hands on learning, Firewhiskey, Quidditch games, being outdoors
Dislikes: Students who complain a lot, slackers, marking essays, monitoring detention, long books
Immediate Family Members: Brandon Kessler - Father, 66, former Gryffindor of Hogwarts
Roanne Kessler - Mother, 65, former Gryffindor of Hogwarts
Aria Tremblay - Sister, 36, former Ravenclaw of Hogwarts
Patrick Kessler - 32, former Gryffindor of Hogwarts
Max Kessler - 9, son
History: Chase was the first child of Brandon and Roanne Kessler, both of whom had met each other while studying at Hogwarts. They got married immediately after graduation but Roanne didn't give birth until about 10 years after that. The newlyweds had wanted a lot of time to travel and explore the world together before settling down to have kids. Once Roanne did find herself pregnant, the couple were completely ready and welcomed Chase into the world with open arms. Two years after that, they welcomed Aria, and then four years after that came Patrick. Chase was the golden child growing up. He excelled at everything, and so when he received acceptance to Hogwarts and was Sorted into Gryffindor, it was no surprise to his parents. Aria and Patrick joined him at school eventually, into Ravenclaw and Gryffindor respectively. At school, Chase received outstanding marks in all his subjects, but especially in Defense Against the Dark Arts. The risk of the subject was very appealing to him, and the idea of becoming an Auror was the only career path he was focused on.
After graduation, things were very bright for Chase. He completed all the prerequisite training to become an Auror and passed all of his physical exams in the Gobi Desert with flying colours. When he was 28 he met a fellow Auror named Brienne, with whom he began a serious relationship with. At this point, his career was well established and he was living in a small home in London. Brienne moved in with him about a year and a half into their relationship, and then about 6 months later found out she was pregnant with a baby boy. Chase could not have been more thrilled to hear that he would be a father. Then, his whole world turned upside down. On a mission assisting some South American Aurors in Rio, Chase was hit by a hex that shattered the bones in his right leg. He had to immediately be transported to a magical medical facility. When the Healers tried to mend the bones with spells, the bones would just crumble even more due to the nature of the hex. A potion was finally discovered that would slowly heal the bones and make it so that his leg would be usable, but he was to be on bed rest for at least half a year to heal. He returned to London and sunk into a bit of a depression. Brienne's pregnancy was progressing, but Chase began to cut himself off from her and the life they had planned to build together. His Auror career was over and that had a very deep emotional effect on him. His sudden lack of spirit and communication with Brienne led her to leave him during her third trimester. His son, Max, was born without Chase present. Brienne did let Chase meet Max shortly after the birth, and meeting his son for the first time turned his life around. He became motivated to do something with his life and be the best father he could be to his son.
After about a year of resting and healing and drinking the foul potion, Chase's leg was finally almost back to how it was before his accident. He would always walk with a very slight limp, but it was painless as long as he kept taking his potion. Unable to return to work as an Auror, he was contacted by the Headmistress of Hogwarts who had heard about his accident and recovery and offered him the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. He accepted immediately and moved to Scotland. Once Brienne heard he had a stable job again and was getting his life back together, she agreed on scheduled times for Chase to see Max, mostly on weekends and during the summer. To this day, he still remains on good terms with Brienne. While teaching at school, he struck up a friendship with fellow professor Saoirse Benoit. They began good friends for about 6 years before forming a relationship and moving into a flat together in Hogsmeade. Chase was also given the position of Head of Gryffindor House, which he takes much pride in.
